Competing county fairs

MALONE — The 163rd edition of the Franklin County Fair starts today with nine days and nights of entertainment sponsored by the Franklin County Agricultural Society.

Meanwhile, the Essex County Fair in Westport enters its final two days.


Here is today’s schedule for the Franklin County Fair, with $10 admission.

8 a.m.: 4-H Horse Show, riding and gymkhana.

9 a.m.: 4-H Poultry Conformation Show.

11 a.m.: Cattle in place for the Holstein and Beef Show; and Rooster Crowing Contest.

1 p.m.: 4-H Poultry Showmanship, 4-H building.

1 to 4 p.m.: Franklin County Has Talent contest eliminations, Stage II.

3 p.m.: Pre-Demolition Derby Figure 8 with 4-cylinder cars.

5 p.m.: Demolition Derby elimination round.


Today is Egglefield Ford Day at the Essex County Fair. Here’s the schedule:

8 a.m.: Open Horse Show at the Horse Ring or Pulling Ring.

10 a.m.: Horse Pulls at the Horse Ring or Pulling Ring.

11 a.m.: 4-H Rabbit Fun Show.

Noon: Midway opens; Egglefield Ford Demolition Derby at the Gordon Oil Grandstand, with $5 admission charge.

1 p.m.: 4-H Poultry Costume Show at the 4-H Cooperative Extension Area.

4 p.m.: Cattle Costume Class at the 4-H Cooperative Extension Area.

5 p.m.: Egglefield Ford Demolition Derby at the grandstand, with $5 charge.

5:30 p.m.: Bike Giveaway at the Denton Publications Stage on the south lawn.
