WiFi at fair

MALONE — Slic Network Solutions is offering free high-speed Internet access throughout the fairgrounds during this year’s Franklin County Fair.

“Users will be surprised at how fast it is” said Jeff Yette, sales engineer.

Attendees are encouraged to connect to the free WiFi using their smartphone or tablet and then go to www.speedtest.net to see how fast it is. Some mobile devices like iPhones may require a Speedtest app to be installed.

Slic is offering the free service to help raise awareness for the need for true high-speed Internet. There are still many areas throughout the state that do not have access to wireline broadband Internet services, and even more areas that don’t have access to the speeds that fiber-optic networks can deliver.

Slic Network Solutions is preparing another grant application for many rural Northern New York areas, which will be submitted Aug. 12. Area residents are encouraged to go to http://broadband.ny.gov and click on the Report an Unserved Address button to fill out their information. This data will be used to help determine what areas of the grant application will receive funding.

Stop by the Windows Only booth on the walkway between the grandstand and the food vendors to pick up additional information.
