Trooper charged with rape

PLATTSBURGH — A State Police trooper was charged Tuesday with two counts of rape and jailed on $50,000 bail.

Trevor J. Donah, 32, a five-year veteran assigned to the Plattsburgh barracks, was suspended without pay after he was charged with two counts of first-degree rape involving two women, according to a State Police news release.

A preliminary hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. Monday in Plattsburgh City Court to determine if there is enough evidence to show a felony was allegedly committed. If that is the finding, the case is then bumped up to Clinton County Court for prosecution.

The alleged incidents involved adult women Donah knew and occurred when he was off-duty “and were not work related,” said Franklin County District Attorney Derek Champagne.

He was named special prosecutor in the case by Clinton County Court Judge Kevin Ryan.

That action was taken because of a conflict of interest with the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office that developed during the initial stages of the investigation, according to Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie.

New York State Police Troop B Capt. Robert LaFountain said Wednesday that State Police would release no further information regarding the case at present.

He did say the State Police Internal Affairs Bureau is conducting the investigation.

Donah was arraigned in City Court and sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 insurance bond.

State Police ask anyone who might have information about the case to conState Police Troop B Major Crimes Unit at 897-2000.

FYI...
  • Why do wolves howl?

Of all the myths that dog the wolf, none is more widely accepted than the idea that wolves howl at the moon. Images of wolves with their heads upturned, singing at the night sky, are as unquestioned as a goldfish's three-second memory or a dog's color-blindness (both also myths).
