Local market relocates, expands

LAKE PLACID — Jan. 2 marked the opening of the new location of Green Goddess Natural Market and the debut of the Scape Café.

The business was formerly located at 183 Newman Rd. (across from the Corner Store) and was previously a two-floor, natural-foods market with take-out food options. Now, in its brand-new, built-to-suit location at Placid Pond Plaza, there is a full-menu Internet café and much more retail and display space.

The Placid Pond Plaza is a newly constructed, three-building plaza that is the home to yoga, acupuncture and karate facilities, a salon and more. Green Goddess Natural Market is the first tenant to move into the newly constructed third structure and the storefront is on the right side of the building as opposed to the Saranac Avenue road frontage. Although the building appears to be under construction, they are open and ready for business.

The owners, Tammy Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese, say they are very excited about the move and expansion because it will allow the market to be more than a store, but also a local gathering space.

“Our biggest change and evolution with the business is the Scape Café (named for the garlic-scape in the Green Goddess logo). Now we have the space to showcase our prepared foods and create a welcoming environment and community hub,” Loewy said.

The café, open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, features a full menu of fresh juices, smoothies, baked goods, sandwiches, burritos, two daily soups and a hot entrée selection. For breakfast, there is organic coffee, breakfast sandwiches with local eggs and bread, yogurt and granola and fresh baked goods. In the non-winter months, there will be riverfront outdoor seating.
