Marie Blatchley, a French teacher at Willsboro Central School, has earned the highest credential available to American educators by becoming a National Board Certified Teacher through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. National Board certification is recognized as the “gold standard” for teaching excellence. The National Board Certification is achieved through a rigorous, performance-based assessment of pedagogical skills and content knowledge. Certification traditionally takes one to three years, and Blatchley was able to achieve this distinction in her first year.

The Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine has announced that the ultrasound practice of Lake Champlain Ob/Gyn, P.C. has been awarded its fourth consecutive accreditation by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. A practice must re-apply for accreditation every three years. Lake Champlain Ob/Gyn, P.C. achieved this recognition by meeting rigorous voluntary guidelines set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession. All facets of the practice were assessed, including the training and qualifications of physicians and sonographers; ultrasound equipment maintenance; documentation, storage and record-keeping practices; policies and procedures to protect patients and staff; quality assurance methods; and the thoroughness, technical quality and interpretation of the sonograms the practice performs.

The American Red Cross North Country Chapter has named four new members to its board of directors for three-year terms: Richelle Beach of West Chazy, executive director of the Child Advocacy Center for the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office; Jamie Cross of Plattsburgh, business banking officer with NBT Bank; Peter J. Ensel III of Plattsburgh, chair of the Department of Communication Studies at SUNY Plattsburgh; and Susan Friedmann of Lake Placid, speaking professional, business coach and author.

Keri J. Rhebergen was elected Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star at its 143rd Grand session. She is a member of Fort Ticonderoga Chapter 263 and of Adirondack Star Chapter 677.
