Two seats open on Saranac School Board

SARANAC — Saranac Central School District residents will be casting their ballots for two School Board members on Tuesday, May 21.

Both seats are five-year terms and are presently held by Tracy Allen-Waite and Lori Saunders.

To be a member, a person must be a qualified voter of the district who is able to read and write; a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age; a resident of the district for at least one year before the election; may not reside with a family member who is presently on the board; and may not be a current employee of the school.

Individuals who wish to be considered must submit a petition to District Clerk Linda Tedford that is signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the district. The petition must describe the specific vacancy for which the candidate is nominated, including the length of the term of office and the name of the last incumbent.

Petitions may be submitted between 8 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. and must reach the District Office by 5 p.m. Monday, April 22.

Petition forms may be obtained from at the District Office, 32 Emmons St. Dannemora or online at or by mail by calling 565-5612.

The vote will be held noon to 8 p.m. May 21 in the gymnasium at Morrisonville Elementary School.


Deadline setfor HoneybeeFund grants

KEENE — The Honeybee Community Fund is accepting applications for its annual grant program.

Grants of as much as $1,000 are awarded yearly to assist small businesses, farmers, nonprofit organizations, environmental projects and the arts. Applicants must live in and/or do business in Essex County.

The deadline to apply is April 10; awards will be made in May.
