JAY — Absentee ballots are now available for the Wednesday, Oct. 16, special election in the Town of Jay on the possible elimination of one town justice position.
All permanent absentee voters, including military, disabled and those already registered as one-time absentee voters for the general election, were mailed their ballots on Wednesday. Any Town of Jay resident who would like to cast a vote by absentee ballot for this special election may now do so.
Applications for absentee ballots may be obtained in person from Jay Town Clerk Bea Pelkey or Deputy Town Clerk Carol Greenley-Hackel between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Jay Town Clerk’s Office at 11 School Lane, AuSable Forks, or by mail by calling 647-2204 or 647-5595.
All absentee ballots will be kept in the town clerk’s safe at the Town Hall until they are tallied on Oct. 16.
Regular Jay District 1 voters may cast their ballots at the Amos and Julia Ward Theatre located at 12 Park Side Lane in Jay, and District 2 voters at the Community Center located at 11 School Lane in AuSable Forks, from noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
A “yes” vote will eliminate one justice position, while a “no” vote will keep the two justice positions intact.
