PLATTSBURGH — Nova Bus is fulfilling a new order from the Puerto Rico Highway and Transportation Authority for 16 buses.
Nova Bus Public Relations Advisor Isabelle Grégoire said the contract is valued at about $7 million. The Nova LFS Smart Buses are manufactured in the Town of Plattsburgh and are already being delivered.
Nova Bus President Jean-Pierre Baracat said the company values the trust shown by the Transportation Authority. Nova Bus buses have been in use in San Juan since the Metropolitan Autobus Authority received 24 Nova LFS buses in 1999.
That was before Nova Bus expanded to Plattsburgh.
“After 14-plus years in service, our vehicles continue to prove themselves in San Juan with a strong track record of reliability and cost efficiency,” he said in a press release.
“Working with the PRHTA has been a positive experience throughout the entire procurement process, and we now look forward to continuing to grow our successful partnership.”
All Nova Bus vehicles use a heavy-duty, stainless-steel shell, which provides strong corrosion resistance, according to the company. It is then covered by thermoplastic skirt panels that can be changed in less than five minutes without bodywork or special tools.
The new generation of Nova LFS Smart Buses use the Nova eCooling system. In conjunction with systems such as adaptive shifting transmissions, it can provide up to 31 percent fuel savings in tests, Nova Bus says.
The revamped passenger space is based on designs used in the aerospace and rail transportation industries.
North Country Chamber of Commerce President Garry Douglas said Nova Bus is continuing to compete effectively for contracts, which bodes well for the future.
“It is especially gratifying to see them earning confidence all over the country after just a few years in the U.S. market, now including Puerto Rico,” he said.
“Our congratulations to the entire Nova team, including all of their employees, who are producing a great product that is establishing a great reputation.”
