Community Outreach Day to be held today

PLATTSBURGH — The first-ever Community Outreach Day will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Plattsburgh City Recreation Center gym on the U.S. Oval.

More than 30 community programs will be available to share information and services, according to Marshia DeSorcie, a licensed social worker from the CV-TEC Family Welcome Center who has been planning the event.

Many free items will be available, including clothing for children and adults, and demonstrations and raffles are planned.

The event will connect people with resources in the community, including low-cost health insurance, nutrition, family health, cancer screening, blood-pressure screening, HEAP, public transportation, financial stability, tax preparation and children’s programs. Refreshments will be served.

The Community Outreach Day is sponsored by CV-TEC Family Welcome Center and OneWorkSource.

Peru Council to vote on budget Thursday

PERU — The Peru Town Council will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to vote on the proposed 2013 town budget and to accept the Employee Benefit Manual. 

A workshop will follow on funding for the walking-trail project.

The public is welcome.

Coat drive to benefit local children in need

PLATTSBURGH — Old Navy has partnered with the Town of Schuyler Falls to accept donations of new and used coats, snow pants, boots, hats and mittens/gloves of all sizes. 

Organizers of the coat drive say there are local youngsters “in desperate need of children’s outerwear.” 

Donations may be brought to Old Navy, Champlain Centre mall, 60 Smithfield Blvd., through Sunday, Nov. 18. They can also be dropped off at the Town Hall at 997 Mason St., Morrisonville.

The Old Navy items will be dropped of at the Town Hall by Nov. 20; residents in need from all surrounding communities can stop in there to see what fits.
