83-year-old charged with grand larceny

SARANAC LAKE — A 83-year-old Saranac Lake woman has been charged with grand larceny.

Charlotte A. Gladd was served the summons by Saranac Lake Village Police for allegedly stealing about $40,000 from another person.

Saranac Lake Police Chief Bruce Nason said Monday that a police investigation found Gladd had made unauthorized transactions from accounts of a person she knew.

“The victim the money was taken from was 87 years old, and it was discovered by the individual who has power of attorney over the victim’s records,” he said.

“It has taken a little bit of time to investigate because the person with power of attorney was not in or around Saranac Lake. We had to wait until they got here to look through the records.

“The investigation is continuing,” he added.

Police did not say anything further about the nature of the alleged theft.

Gladd is scheduled to appear in Village Court on Monday, March 25.

She was not taken into custody, per decision by the court.

“Village Court initiated a criminal summons, and we served the summons for her court date,” the chief said.
