Community Calendar: Feb. 8, 2013

The Press-Republican events calendar appears every Friday. Be sure submissions reach the Press-Republican newsroom at least one week before the calendar in which they need to appear.

Items should be brief, listing the time, date, place, prices, a contact number and any other essential information.

All items in the calendar must be open to the public.

24th-annual Winter Book Sale. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saranac Lake Free Library, Thomas B. Cantwell Community Room, 109 Main St. Many children’s books.

Wee People Gym Play Group. 10 to 11:45 a.m. City Recreation Gym, 52 US Oval, Plattsburgh. Bounce House, tricycles, Pop-Up Village, ages infant through 5 years. Sponsored by Family Connections Family Resource Center.

Family Swim Night. 7 to 9 p.m. The Wellness Center at PARC, New York Road, Plattsburgh. $2 per person. Opportunity for a swim in a heated indoor pool to exercise or just float around. Sponsored by Town of Plattsburgh Parks & Recreation Dept.

ARC Foundation Hot Jazz on a Cool Night Fundraiser. 6 to 10:30 p.m. West Side Ballroom, 253 New York Road, Plattsburgh. Featuring the Adirondack Jazz Orchestra under the musical direction of Matthew Pray. Dinner (salad, chicken breast, strip steak, potato, vegetable, dessert), dancing and a chance to win a Lake Placid Get-Away package. Tickets: $45.

SAT., FEB. 9

Third-annual Sunrise Rotary Winter Carnival. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. CVPH Medical Center front lawn, off Beekman Street, Plattsburgh. Free. Snow sculptures, sledding hill, ice skating (bring skates), skiing (equipment provided), arts and crafts, horse-drawn wagon rides, disk golf, pancake toss, healthy food and drink. Sponsored by Plattsburgh Sunrise Rotary. Bring a nonperishable food item for a local food pantry.
