Hospital affiliation OK'd by Health Department

PLATTSBURGH — The New York State Department of Health has approved a corporate affiliation between CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh and Elizabethtown Community Hospital through their corporate parent, Community Providers Inc. and Fletcher Allen Partners.

Fletcher Allen Partners is the Vermont-based corporate parent organization of Fletcher Allen Health Care and Central Vermont Medical Center.

The affiliation took effect Tuesday, finalized following a nine-month period of state and federal regulatory reviews that began last March after the organizations gave their initial approvals to proceed.

It is subject to confirmation by the New York Supreme Court, which is expected within 45 days, a press release said.

COLLABORATION

“Fletcher Allen Partners holds incredible potential for the patients and communities located within the boundaries of this innovative regional approach to addressing health-care needs,” Stephens Mundy, president and CEO of CVPH Medical Center, said in the statement.

“Given our evolving health-care delivery system, now is the time for collaboration in order to achieve the best access to quality care, outcomes and cost effectiveness. We at CVPH could not be happier to affiliate with Fletcher Allen Health Care and Central Vermont Medical Center while continuing our relationship with our sister hospital in Elizabethtown.

“It will be up to all of us to deliver improved health care access to our communities.”

ACADEMIC MISSION

“The affiliation will allow for improved continuity of patient care throughout the region,” said Rod Boula, CEO at Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

“Our facilities will provide seamless and coordinated care by improving access to specialists and information. Patients will ultimately benefit from the strengths of each organization, as each will be working closely with the others.”

“Like Stephens and Rod, I believe that increased collaboration among our hospitals and other providers in the region will benefit our patients,” said Dr. John Brumsted, president and chief executive officer of Fletcher Allen and chief executive officer of Fletcher Allen Partners.
