Hawkins Hall to go blue

for diabetes awareness

PLATTSBURGH — Members of the community are invited to dress in blue and join in a human circle in front of Hawkins Hall at SUNY Plattsburgh in honor of World Diabetes Day, starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

At dusk, the building will be illuminated in blue to raise awareness of diabetes.

The college’s Student Nursing Club is sponsoring the event.

“They see firsthand the number of patients fighting this disease as well as its debilitating complications during their clinical rotations both in the hospital and throughout the community,” said Jill Folsom, an adjunct nursing faculty member at the college and a volunteer with the International Diabetes Federation.

Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke and amputation and affects more than 300 million people, according to the International Diabetes Federation and World Health Organization.

FYI...
