---- — WESTVILLE — High water and predicted thunderstorms are not dampening the enthusiasm for the third-annual Bluegrass Festival at Babble Brook RV Park.
Visitors from as far away as Louisiana and Mississippi have made reservations to stay at the park and enjoy three days of bluegrass music from seven bands, said Barb Snyder, who owns and operates the park with her husband, Gaylord.
The campsite, at the corner of Route 37 and Franklin County Road 4 (Bombay-Westville Road), was threatened by high water during last week’s torrential rainstorms and the flooding that followed.
“The water got pretty high,” Snyder said.
But there was no damage done at the park, she said, and the weekend festival will go on as planned, even though scattered thunderstorms are forecast for the weekend.
She said 120 campers have already made reservations, so they are expecting at least 250 people for the event.
“We had 135 campers past year, and there are at least two people in each of them, plus we get the ones off the street,” Snyder said.
The gates open at 9 a.m. today, giving vendors a chance to set up their booths and get ready for the crowds.
In addition to the host band, Dave Nichols and Spare Change from Whippleville, the festival will include performances from the Spinney Brothers of Nova Scotia; Bear Tracks, whose members hail from northern New York; the Foggy River Band of Clayton; the Atkinson Family Band from Harrisville; Bluegrass Revisited of northern Vermont; and the Lake Effect Bluegrass Band from Syracuse.
For the first time, the festival will offer a worship service at 9 a.m. Sunday, conducted by Roger Preve of the First Baptist Church in Malone.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their instruments and perform gospel songs under a tent that will be erected onsite.
