City Common Council to meet

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Common Council will take action on several items at tonight’s meeting.

Among them are a request to allow the city chamberlain to adjust the 2013 general fund budget by an increase of $9,930 equally in estimated revenues and appropriations for handicapped accessible tree house contributions received to fund the project, and a request to allow Thomas Powers from Citizens for the Constitution to hold a New York State Act rally on the U.S. Oval on Aug. 9 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The meeting begins with a work session at 5 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Both meetings are open to the public.

Franklin County Legislature meets today

MALONE — Franklin County legislators will hold a series of meetings today, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the Public Safety Committee and Public Defender Thomas Soucia.

The full board will meet at 10 a.m. with Pat Maneely, secretary of the Franklin County Agricultural Society Board of Directors, followed at 10:30 a.m. by Public Nursing Service Director Katie Strack and Nanette Postlehwait of the Adirondack Tobacco Free Network.

A work session is set for 11 a.m. with the call to order at 11:30 a.m. and a meeting of the full board with Emergency Services Director Ricky Provost.

After a lunch break, Strack returns to speak with members of the Human Resources Committee at 1:30 p.m., and the full board will hear a report from independent auditor Roger Lis at 1:45 p.m.

All meetings are open to the public and held in the fourth-floor Legislative chambers of the County Courthouse.

Firefighters flushing hydrants in Center City

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Fire Department will be flushing hydrants in the Center City today.

The streets affected, sometime between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., will be Couch, William, Broad, Steltzer, Goff, South Catherine, Pine, White, George, Standish and Smith.
