Rapist gets jail time, probation

PLATTSBURGH — An Ellenburg Depot man recently pleaded guilty to second-degree rape.

Joseph Burdo, 23, was sentenced by Clinton County Court Judge Kevin Ryan to six months in jail and 10 years of probation.

He was also required to register with the State Sex Offender Registry.

A stay-away order of protection was put in place. Burdo was also ordered to pay fines.

Assistant District Attorney Dominica Pedula prosecuted the case.

Burdo, she said, is registered as a Level 1 sex offender.

“(Level) 1 being the least likely to re-offend and 3 being the most likely to re-offend,” Pedula said. “Level 3 is the most serious.”

The D.A.’s Office could release no further details regarding the case due to its nature, she said.

Burdo’s registration information was not listed on the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Service’s online registry as of Wednesday.

FYI...
  • Why do wolves howl?

Of all the myths that dog the wolf, none is more widely accepted than the idea that wolves howl at the moon. Images of wolves with their heads upturned, singing at the night sky, are as unquestioned as a goldfish's three-second memory or a dog's color-blindness (both also myths).
