PLATTSBURGH — Consumer Square here has welcomed a Carter’s children’s clothing store.
The shop, located next to Home Goods, is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. today.
Carter’s, with headquarters in Atlanta, has more than 700 company-operated stores in the United States, Canada and Japan. It bills itself as the largest branded marketer in the United States of apparel and related products exclusively for babies and young children.
Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Bernie Bassett thinks Carter’s is a nice addition to the local shopping scene. It is yet another national chain that can help attract shoppers to an area, he said.
“It’s a brand name anyone who’s had children will recognize and know they can depend on for quality clothing.”
The chain sells clothing under its own brand, as well as the OshKosh B’gosh brand.
In addition, its Just One You, Precious Firsts and Genuine Kids lines are available at Target, and its Child of Mine brand is available at Wal-Mart.
NET SALES UP
On its website, Carter’s reported consolidated net sales of $2.6 billion in fiscal 2013, up $257 million from fiscal 2012. That included consolidated net sales of $770 million in the fourth quarter of 2013, up $80.4 million from the previous year.
In the announcement of fiscal-year 2013 financial results, Carter’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Casey said the company achieved its 25th consecutive year of sales growth in 2013.
“This performance reflects our focus on providing consumers with the best value and experience in young children’s apparel, extending the reach of our brands and improving profitability,” he said in a press release.
“We are planning good growth in sales and earnings in 2014, driven by our direct-to-consumer businesses in the U.S. and Canada.”
The nearest Carter’s location to Plattsburgh is the Essex Outlets in Essex, Vt.
