PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh is looking for more runners to participate in the Plattsburgh Half-Marathon race later this month.
So far, 730 runners have registered for the 13.1-mile race, set for Sunday, April 27.
City Recreation Director Steve Peters said those numbers are off about 70 or 80 from last year’s field.
With heavy snowfalls and extremely cold temperatures this past winter, Peters speculates that many runners have not been able to train as much for the race and are not signing up.
To give them an option, he is reminding would-be runners that they can still enter the race as part of a two-person relay team, with each runner covering about 6.55 miles.
“It looks like spring is finally here, but it’s been a tough winter to train, and if people haven’t been able to train as much, they can still take part in the race with a buddy on a relay team,” Peters said.
The race, which is in its fifth year, can accept a maximum of 1,000 runners.
The race begins at 8 a.m. at the City Recreation Center on the U.S. Oval. The course winds through the city, finishing back at the Recreation Center.
The cost for the race is $60 per runner or $90 for a relay team.
The registration deadline is April 18.

Peters said volunteers for the race are also still needed. To volunteer, contact him at email@example.com.
