Business ready for swim season

MALONE — Pro Pool LLC of Malone has built a new and larger building to accommodate it’s growing retail business.

Don Lancto, owner, has been in the pool business since 1998 when he was installing pools and living in Churubusco. In 2006, he moved the business to Malone.

“The response of the community to our business has been fantastic,” he said from the 4158 Route 11 location. “I believe it is because we do all of our own work, no subcontractors, and we guarantee everything.”

Pro Pools retail line has a lot of room to expand at the new building. The products include chemicals, leaf nets, solar covers, pool lighting, auto cleaners and more. Both in-ground and above-ground pools are available in a variety of sizes and styles.

“While we sell chlorine, many of our customers like the salt system that converts salt to chlorine,” Lancto said. “It’s not harsh and one customer told me it’s like swimming in silk.”

Store manager Jan Rowe and Lancto are looking forward to a new shipment of spas that will have a special corner at the showroom with a beautiful hand-painted tropical scene as a backdrop. He is also waiting for the snow and ice to melt to finish work on the exterior, looking forward to an open house in late April.

Brand-name pools at Pro Pool include Sea Spray, Garden Leisure, Atlantic and Celebration, with one line of all aluminum above-ground pools that include the decking. Typically, the business sells between 40 and 60 above-ground pools a year. A $20,000 price tag for in-ground pools keeps that number to three or four.

No matter what type of pool or spa the homeowner is interested in, Lancto said, the time to start planning is now, even though the snow is still on the ground.
