Akey, son of Roland and Pamela Akey of Plattsburgh and a 2010 graduate of Peru High School, earned distinction as an honor graduate; Air National Guard Airman Caitlin E. Lee, daughter of Karen Lee of West Chazy, 2002 graduate from Northern Adirondack Central School and 2007 graduate, with an associate’s degree, from North Country Community College; Airman Taylor L. Evans, daughter of Robert Evans of Plattsburgh and Ruth Duran of Sonora, Calif., a 2011 graduate of Sonora Union High School, Calif; Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Jacob D. Stevenson, son of Jake Stevenson of Mineville and a 2012 graduate of Moriah Central School, Port Henry. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Kasey K. Trombley, son of Karen Trombley of Mooers and Kevin Trombley of Peru and a 2009 graduate of Northeastern Clinton Central School, Champlain; and Airman Kristoffer R. Whitford, son of Brenda Whitford of Ticonderoga, a 2008 graduate of Ticonderoga High School.
Senior Airman Scott J. Powers has graduated with honors from Airman Leadership School, Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. The five-week course is designed to train senior airmen to understand their positions in the Air Force organizational structure, combat leadership, supervisory communications skills and profession of arms, which are needed for professional development to be effective noncommissioned officers. He is the son of Lyn M. Goldsmith and stepson of Greg Goldsmith, and son of Heather Powers and stepson of Rickie A. Powers, all of Plattsburgh.
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class James E. Martin, son of James Martin of Keeseville, was recently selected as Junior Snipe of the Month aboard the dock landing ship USS Carter Hall, homeported in Little Creek, Va. He was chosen as the top performer from among all the sailors assigned to the command and was cited for outstanding professional accomplishment, proficiency, leadership, initiative and military bearing.
Three area residents have re-enlisted with the New York Army National Guard. They are Master Sgt. Arthur Cooganof Witherbee, who will continue with Joint Force Headquarters; Sgt. Anthony Turner of West Chazy, will continue with the Company B 2-108th Infantry; and Spec. John Savage of Port Henry, to continue service with the 1427th Transportation Company.
Airman Typhani J. Hosmer graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. She completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills, earning four credits toward an associate in applied science degree. Hosmer, daughter of Jerry Hosmer of Rouses Point, is a 2011 graduate of Northeastern Clinton Central School, Champlain.
