Holocaust survivor talk canceled for now

PLATTSBURGH — The government shutdown has delayed a presentation at SUNY Plattsburgh by Holocaust survivor Louise Lawrence-Israels.

The event had been set for Wednesday.


Chazy Planning Board to hold public hearing

CHAZY — The Chazy Planning Board will hold a public hearing on the draft of the Comprehensive Plan at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at the Chazy Town Hall. 

The public may attend.


Forum to feature city mayoral hopefuls

PLATTSBURGH — Vision2Action will host a forum with Plattsburgh’s mayoral candidates at Krinovitz Hall in Hawkins Hall on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Over the last two years, Vision2Action has focused on the arts, recreation, transportation and education. This forum will ask the candidates to share their thoughts on the same issues as they relate to the economic development of the City of Plattsburgh.

“These issues are essential to the overall growth of Plattsburgh, and this forum is an opportunity for citizens to hear what their candidates for mayor have planned for the city,” Vision2Action Chairperson Devi Momot said in a statement.

The forum will be moderated by “Mountain Lake Journal” anchor Thom Hallock. Forum panelists will include Pat Bradley of WAMC Northeast Public Radio and Joe LoTemplio of the Press-Republican.

The forum is open to the public and will also be recorded and broadcast on 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, on Mountain Lake PBS.

Vision2Action is working to improve the greater Plattsburgh region with the goals of attracting 3,000 new families to the region by 2040; creating a dynamic and engaged public to address the future of the community; building a welcoming environment for new families and individuals; and promoting a sense of regional pride.


Westport Town Council plans special meeting

WESTPORT — The Westport Town Council will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, to discuss insurance. 

Some of the session is expected to be in executive session, but otherwise the meeting is open to the public.
