---- — ELLENBURG — Quick action by the caretaker of a home here resulted in the arrest of two burglars, police say.
Brandon S. Duby, 22, and Tara L. Reynolds, 34, of Peru were both charged with second-degree burglary, a felony.
No one was in the home when the two entered the 1221 Plank Road residence the night of Sept. 19, said State Police Troop B Public Information Officer Trooper Jennifer Fleishman.
The caretaker, who lives nearby, saw an unfamiliar car pull into the driveway at about 8 p.m., drove to the house, blocked the vehicle and called State Police, Fleishman said.
Duby and Reynolds fled into a wooded area behind the home but were apprehended by police shortly before midnight, Fleishman said.
Assisting State Police in investigation were the U.S. Border Patrol and their aviation unit, she said.
Duby and Reynolds were both arraigned in Ellenburg Town Court and are scheduled to reappear there at 6 p.m. Oct. 10.
Police have linked the pair to numerous other burglaries throughout Clinton and Essex counties since their arrest, Fleishman said.
Duby was still in Clinton County Jail on Thursday afternoon in lieu of $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.
Reynolds also remained in jail without bail, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Both have served time in Essex County Jail but information on those earlier cases wasn’t available Thursday. Duby last served time there in April 2010, according to the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.
And Reynolds was incarcerated there in October 2012.
More charges are pending and the investigation is continuing, Fleishman said.
