Malone furniture firm shuts down

MALONE — Furniture-manufacturing equipment from the former Valco Furniture plant in the Malone Industrial Park will be auctioned off Thursday.

The building’s most recent tenant was O-Palier Canadian Furniture, which employed 15 people and made high-quality dining-room sets sold to major retailers like Sears, Macy’s and BonTon in Canada.

The plant had been in operation for about a year.

Executive Director Jeff Casselman planned to expand the business here and offer new product lines from its headquarters near Montreal, but that didn’t materialize.

A branch in Williamsburg, Ontario, had closed when O-Palier brought its business to Malone.

“It’s very sad to see any business go out of Malone, but the guy just couldn’t make a go of it,” Town Supervisor Howard Maneely said.

“He made quality furniture, but he went back to Montreal.”

MUCH EQUIPMENT

Inspection of the machinery and associated goods up for liquidation will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the site off Creighton Road near the Malone-Dufort Airport.

The contents of the 90,000 square-foot building include an assortment of industrial-grade, precision-banding equipment, machining and manual equipment, woodworking equipment such as routers, saws and shapers, a cyclonic dust-collector system, drills, sanders, a dove-tailer, a compression-air dryer and more.

O-Palier will also sell factory-support equipment such as front-end loaders, forklifts and office furniture.

Any small items purchased must be removed from the premises by 5 p.m. Friday.

All other items must be removed by 5 p.m. Dec. 6.

ONLINE LISTING

The goods and machinery, which will be auctioned by Corporate Assets Inc. of Toronto, can be inspected between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday and until 10:30 a.m. Thursday when the auction begins.

Bids can be offered in person, online or through proxy.

Details about the bid process, a complete listing of available equipment and a brochure of some of the equipment are available online at www.corpassets.com.
