Sex offender gets jail time for failing to register|

PLATTSBURGH — An Ellenburg Center sex offender was sentenced in Clinton County Court to jail time for failing to register as required by law.

Joseph A. Marcoux, 39, pleaded guilty for failure to register as a sex offender, a felony, and was sentenced by Clinton County Judge Patrick McGill to 90 days in jail, according to the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office.

Marcoux was convicted of second-degree rape and was incarcerated in state prison for a year and seven months before he was released into the supervision of a parole officer, according to online state prison records.

He was on parole for a year, according to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

As part of his sentence for failing to register as a sex offender, Marcoux was ordered to pay a $500 fine, $375 in surcharges and waive his right to an appeal, according to the DA’s Office.

He must also provide a sample of his DNA and pay the $50 sample-collection fee, the DA’s Office said.
