Malone man dies in Lewis County crash

CROGHAN — A Malone man died in a car crash Saturday while rushing his wife to a Lewis County hospital.

Samuel E. Demo, 57, of Willow Street, was driving on Effley Falls Road in the Town of Croghan at 11:52 p.m. to bring his wife, Kathi Demo, 54, to Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville when he apparently lost control of his 2001 Pontiac Grand Am and went off the shoulder of the road, according to Lewis County Sheriff’s deputies.

The vehicle rolled over three times before it came to rest in a clump of trees, deputies said.

Demo was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife was taken to the Lowville hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

No additional information was available Sunday evening.
