Chateaugay considers theater seating, heating upgrades

CHATEAUGAY — The Chateaugay Theater and restrooms at Chateaugay Town Hall could be getting some attention, depending on the costs.

The Chateaugay Town Council recently heard a presentation from John Carr of Blue Mountain Engineering, who was hired to develop bid proposals for both new and refurbished theater seats.

According to meeting minutes, council members wanted to compare both sets of pricing before making a decision.

Carr was also to work out estimates for the facility’s heating system but said he needed to do more research before submitting it for approval.

Town Supervisor Donald Bilow also reported that the soda cooler in the theater quit and that it would be cheaper to buy a new cooler or a refrigerator rather than pay for repairing the old one.

But Town Council member William Trombley suggested the issue be tabled and that no action be taken until the Chateaugay Revitalization Committee is contacted, since it purchased the original machine.

In recent other action:

RESTROOM: Bilow reported that the women’s restroom downstairs in the Town Office is in need of repair, particularly the deteriorating ceiling and walls.

FANTASY FAIR: Fantasy Fair Director Barry Armstrong and Don Strachan approached the council about having the three-day Krebashia Kingdom Fantasy Fair back this year on June 27, 28 and 29. That is also graduation weekend.

HEAT SAVINGS: Bilow said the new heating system has saved the town money even though the price of propane was the highest it has been in years. He said he wouldn’t have exact figures until the heating season is finished.

SANDER: Highway Superintendent Kirby Cook said he received a thank-you note from the Town of Clinton for the sander the town donated.
