Franklin, Essex county drug sweeps nets 33

Operation was a collaborative effort among local, county, state and federal agencies

MALONE — A drug sweep early Friday in Franklin and Essex counties resulted in 33 arrests with at least four pending, police say.

In Essex County, the cases were investigated by the State Police Troop B Narcotics Enforcement Unit, said Bureau of Criminal Investigation Capt. Robert LaFountain, with 50 officers from several agencies involved in Friday’s operation.

The extensive sweep, he said, “is part of a regional coordinated effort to address the drug problem, which is plaguing this area.”

All those arrested face felony charges except where otherwise noted.

Taken into custody in the Malone area, along with their charges were: 

James J. Besaw, 36, Massena: Second-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (Ecstasy).

Curtis Kendrick, 27, Malone: Third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (heroin).

Cody R. Lachance, 25, Constable: Third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (heroin).

Trevor M. Marsh, 24, Dickinson Center: Third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).

Howard P. Petell, 24, Malone: Third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone, Lyrica). 

Dakota C. Pond, 20, Dickinson: Third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).

Dennis D. Mulverhill Jr., 23, already in Albany County Jail: Third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (heroin).

Cory R. Rockhill, 36, incarcerated in Franklin County Jail: Two counts of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (suboxone).
