Student Recognition: March 13, 2014


Emily Manchester of Plattsburgh has been named to the SUNY Oneonta fall semester Dean’s List.

Several North Country students have been nominated to attend the nation’s service academies. Their names and the academy they may attend are: U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., Kylie Austin of Ticonderoga, Jeremiah Reagan of Massena, Francis “Lloyd” Staats IV of Essex and Joseph Tobin of Cadyville; U.S. Military Academy, West Point, Chandler Gach of Saranac Lake, Daniel Hill of Adirondack and Mitchell Valenza of Queensbury; and U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., Chandler Gach of Saranac Lake, Daniel Hill of Adirondack, Mathew Orr of Rouses Point and Connor Paquin of Massena. 

Taylor Chien of Saranac Lake, majoring in network and computer security at SUNY Institute of Technology, Utica, has been named to the Academic Honor’s List for the fall semester.

Area students named to the President’s List at SUNY Institute of Technology are Matthew Seymour of Peru, civil engineering; Darren Sponable of Plattsburgh, mechanical engineering and Anthony Barnao of Ticonderoga, mechanical engineering.

Oklahoma State University in Stillwater has named Kathryn Amelia Tipton of Plattsburgh to the fall Honor Roll. She is a 2012 graduate of Seton Catholic Central High School.

Patrick Parent, son of Allen Parent and Denise Duquette of Champlain, and Nolan Reid, son of Tom Reid and Carolyn Reid of Champlain, are the recipients of the Neil Thomas Guay Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship. Parent attends Clinton Community College, Plattsburgh, studying with Homeland Security; and Reid attends SUNY Canton, pursuing a degree in law enforcement.

James Ford of Peru has been named to the President’s List at SUNY Geneseo for the fall semester. Students must achieve an A in all coursework while taking at least 12 credit hours to be recognized.

Hudson Valley Community College student Glenn Miller of Peru was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for two-year institutions of higher learning. He is a student in the mortuary science studies.
