Pvt. Robert J. Zuckerberg graduated from Marine Corp recruit training in December at Parris Island, S.C. He is the son of Robert and Gabrielle Zuckerberg of Colonie, grandson of Faline and Tim Jandreau and Max and Faith Zuckerberg, all of Plattsburgh, and Bob Melhorn of Peru and the late Mary Melhorn. He has reported to Camp LaJune, N.C., for further infantry training and upon completion will be assigned to Pensacola NAS, Fla., for avionics training in aircraft systems. He is a 2013 graduate of Colonie High School.
Staff Sgt. Todd St. John of Plattsburgh has re-enlisted with Company B, 2-108th infantry.
Local members of the New York Air National Guard who received recognition for their service in a combat zone include Tech Sgt. Jorge Garcia of Champlain. Garcia, a member of the 174th Attack Wing, was recognized for supporting overseas contingency operations.
Sgt. Andrew Mesick of Mooers Forks has re-enlisted with Headquarters Combat Aviation Brigade, 42nd Infantry Division.
Daniel Davis of Lyon Mountain, serving with the 1427th Transportation Company, has been promoted to the rank of private.
Spencer Hebert of Champlain, serving with Company B, 2-108th Infantry, has been promoted to the rank of private.
Two area servicemen have promoted in the Army National Guard. Jason Aiken of Chateaugay, serving with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2-108th Infantry is promoted to private first class, and Jacob Durant of Brushton, serving the the Joint Force Headquarters has been promoted to private. The promotions are based on additional responsibility and leadership skills shown by the soldiers.
