PLATTSBURGH — Archer Bodyworks is marking its 10th anniversary in downtown Plattsburgh.
Spa owner Dena Archer said that after working in several different parts of the country, she performed her first massage in downtown Plattsburgh on March 15.
“It went by fast,” she said of her time in Plattsburgh, which included seven-plus years at her spa on Durkee Street and the last almost three years at 22 Oak St., right across from the City Library.
The spa features hardwood floors and walls painted in soothing pastel colors. The reception/waiting room is bright with a wall of windows facing Oak Street.
Services include a wide range of massage therapy, spa treatments, detoxifying treatments, Sanitas peels, facials, waxing, an infrared sauna and synergy cellulite treatment.
Recent renovations allowed Archer to add a fourth treatment room, which allowed her to add ashiatsu oriental bar therapy. It is a method where the feet are used to provide the massage, with the therapist using bars or other means to support their weight.
“It is the deepest, most luxurious massage on the planet,” Archer said, adding it allows her to exert more pressure and target a larger area than if she used her hands.
The room is also used for couples massages, which have become increasingly popular. Each couples massage includes a complimentary glass of champagne and truffles.
“It can be a very bonding experience,” she said. “People call and ask for that service all the time.”
Archer also studied for three years at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing after clients requested her to offer healing through the body’s energy field.
After she returned to Plattsburgh, Archer worked alone for several years.
The move to Oak Street has allowed her to bring four other people on board — Licensed Massage Therapists Lisa Collin and Regina Panetti, Licensed Esthetician Rachel Davison and Spa Coordinator Michaelene LaBombard.
