Jury seated in Scaringe trial

MALONE — The jury has been seated, so opening statements will begin at 8:30 a.m. today in the Michael Scaringe rape trial in Franklin County Court.

The six-man, six-woman panel and two male alternates will hear evidence against the former director of the Saranac Lake Youth Center, who is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl who frequented the center in 2009.

Opening statements are expected from Chief Assistant District Attorney Jack Delehanty and defense attorney Mary Rain.

The case will be presided over by St. Lawrence County Supreme Court and Acting Franklin County Court Judge Kathleen Rogers.

Rogers told the jury she hopes to have testimony concluded by Friday. She reminded the attorneys to have the people they intend to call to the stand prepared to appear.

“I want witnesses waiting, not the jury,” the judge said Tuesday.
