Crown Point man gravely injured in shooting

CROWN POINT — A Crown Point man shot in the head Tuesday afternoon was in grave condition at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington as his brother, accused of the shooting, awaited arraignment on charges of second-degree attempted murder.

State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Capt. Robert LaFountain said Russell Lang, 63, was shot by his brother David Lang, 70, at about 2:50 p.m. at their 325 Lake Road residence.

It was David, LaFountain said, who made the 911 call to Essex County Emergency Services. Police arrived within minutes, finding Russell in the driveway, he said, and quickly began to administer CPR.

Russell was taken by ambulance to Moses-Luddington Hospital and then flown to Fletcher Allen via Life Flight.

LaFountain said David admitted to shooting his brother and was immediately taken into police custody without incident.

Counsel from Essex County District Attorney Kristy Sprague determined the second-degree attempted-murder charge.

The Lake Road property remained secured by police, and they were in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the premises, LaFountain said.

The Violent Crime Investigation Team and Forensic Investigation Team were assisting with the case, he noted.

He said commencement of the crime scene search would begin upon the issuance of the search warrant, and he expected the investigation to continue throughout Wednesday.

LaFountain said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and that at no time was the public in any danger.
