Biggest Loser race coming to Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH — Two "The Biggest Loser" competitors are challenging Americans to get fit in the City of Plattsburgh, in one of the show's Premier Destination races.

The Biggest Loser RunWalk competition, set for June 9, is one of many around the country that features both a half-marathon and 5-kilometer race for adults and a 1-mile kids fun run.

"That's what is so exciting about the Biggest Loser RunWalk," Jackie Evans said at a press conference Friday morning. "It's for everybody."

She and her son, Dan Evans, are national spokespeople for The Biggest Loser RunWalk and will compete at the Plattsburgh race.

Contestants he mother and son in the fifth season of the NBC show, they lost a combined 225 pounds — 136 pounds by Dan and 89 pounds by Jackie.

During that time, they worked out eight to 10 hours a day under the guidance of trainers. They initially struggled once the show was over, putting back on 30 to 40 pounds each.

That changed when they started running races. That has helped them regain control of their weight and health, Jackie said.

She ran 11 half-marathons in 2011, and Dan ran 14. Dan was up to 25 last year.

"We got addicted to them," Jackie said.

It's important for racers to understand they don't need to run the whole course, they said.

Dan said he has come to realize the power of the show as they have traveled across the country to take part in the race series.

"He has shared experiences with people from all walks of life.

"It is proof the show can effect people's lives," he said.

"Whether it is your first half marathon or you want to hit your next PR (personal best)," "The Biggest Loser" says on its website of the Premier Destination races, "this series serves as a fun and rewarding race worthy of traveling to!"
