City adjusts trash pickup for holiday
PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Public Works Department won’t be picking up garbage on Monday due to the Memorial Day holiday.
Monday’s collections will be done Tuesday, along with the regular Tuesday pickups.
All other collections will be done on their regular days.
City firefighters to start flushing hydrants
PLATTSBURGH — As they do every spring, City of Plattsburgh firefighters will begin flushing hydrants until all of them have been cleared.
The hydrant-flushing program will start Tuesday, May 28, on these streets: Cornelia, Healey, Kennedy, Rugar, Erin, College, Shamrock, Terrace West, Sandra and Cogan.
Hydrants are flushed between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., and water in residences and businesses may be cloudy or rust-colored for a time. Residents are advised not to wash clothes or bath during these times.
Kiwanis Breakfast Club launches vets project
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Kiwanis Breakfast Club is collecting needed items to be distributed to veterans throughout the northern New York region, as far south as Albany and as far north as the Canadian border, including many from the Plattsburgh area.
The Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany has issued the following list of needed items: men’s undershirts, briefs and boxers (all sizes); men’s and woman’s sweatshirts and sweatpants (all sizes); woman’s sports bras (all sizes), large-print crossword puzzle books; disposable razors (triple or quad); stick deodorant for men and women; bar soap; shampoo/body wash; regular coffee in cans; Creamora or other brands of powdered creamer; sugar and artificial sweetener; hard candies; and gift cards from Walmart, Price Chopper, Target and Hannaford for emergency purchases of clothing, toiletries and food items.
Drop off items between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday at the War of 1812 Museum, 31 Washington Road on the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base. Or contact Tammy Brown at 534-4082 or email her firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements to have a club member pick up items.
