Busy border expected this weekend

CHAMPLAIN — U.S. Customs and Border Protection is expecting a busy U.S.-Canadian border this weekend due to the Memorial Day holiday.

Travelers are urged to prepare for the inspection process before arriving at the inspection booth. Here are some suggestions from the agency:

▶ Have your identification documents in hand before reaching primary inspection.

▶ End cellphone conversations before arriving at the inspection booth.

▶ Have windows rolled down for inspection.

▶ Remove any sunglasses and hats before entering the inspection area.

▶ Declare all items acquired abroad.

▶ Allow for extra time, and check border wait times at www.cbp.gov so you can select the crossing that is least congested.

The ports of Cannon Corners and Churubusco have limited immigration-processing capabilities. It is suggested that travelers requiring that service use an alternate port of entry.

Travelers are encouraged to visit the Know Before You Go section of the website: http://www.cbp.gov/travel.

To avoid fines and penalties associated with the importation of restricted or prohibited items, people are urged to become educated on the rules before traveling.

For more information on what to expect at a port of entry, document requirements and prohibited or restricted items, visit www.GetYouHome.gov.
