Lake Placid schools plan ahead

District will review input, set strategy

LAKE PLACID — School officials are poised to build a Strategic Plan for Lake Placid Central School District.

The goals set will guide both the school budget process and program development over the next three to five years.

Lake Placid School District Superintendent Dr. Roger Catania said the results of a public-outreach process have been tallied and will be the focus of several upcoming public meetings.

“We will be discussing the findings from our strategic-planning initiative three times during the coming week,” the superintendent said via email.

‘HONEST FEEDBACK’

“Approximately 40 people participated in our Strategic Planning Advisory Group activities, including students, parents, teachers, staff, administrators and community leaders,” he said.

“We asked participants to provide honest feedback on the schools; their responses — and the discussions that followed — will help us formulate objectives for the future.

“The strategic-planning process will contribute to decisions we will make regarding programs, budgets and future directions.”

Participants overall were happy with the process and impressed with Bill Rusak, the facilitator, who encouraged an open and honest forum without bias or prejudice, Catania added.

“We believe that the feedback he collected, whatever its substance, represents the honest opinions of many of our community stakeholders.”

UPCOMING MEETINGS

Catania said the school’s strategic-planning facilitator, Rusak, will share findings with planning participants at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, in the Lake Placid Middle/High School Library.

A similar presentation will be made at 6 p.m. during the School Board meeting in the Administration Building conference room.

Rusak will then lead a session with the School Board at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, also in the Administration Building, which is behind the Middle/High School.

Catania said all sessions are open to the public.
