Help available with soil-group worksheets

WESTPORT — The Essex County Soil and Water Conservation District will be assisting agricultural landowners with completion of soil-group worksheets for agricultural exemption.

The exemptions are for qualifying landowners earning $10,000 or more per year from their agricultural operation.

Landowners making changes to current qualifying parcels need to have updated worksheets for acreage and ownership changes.

Agricultural landowners should first contact their local assessor to determine eligibility.

Contact the district office at 962-8225 or email at essexswcd@westelcom.com for a new or updated soil-group worksheet before the March 1 deadline.

The paper came in at eighth in the four-year weekly tabloid division. Other papers named in that division included those from the University of North Florida, University of Miami, Georgia State University and California State University Stanislaus.

The issue judged came out Oct. 18 and was produced by current Cardinal Points staff, including Editor-in-Chief Stanley Blow III, Managing Editor Lara Dufresne, News Editor Brian Molongoski, Sports Editor Zachary Ripple, Fuse Editor Elizabeth Reff, Opinions Editor Brittany Shew, Photo Editor Alexander Ayala and Web Editor Melanie Rivera.

This is the second time the paper has made the Best of Show list. The first was in 2011, when the college ranked No. 1 among four-year, non-daily newspapers.
