---- — PLATTSBURGH — The 2013 road construction season has begun.
Crews ask that motorists use caution when driving through work zones, where fines are doubled for speeding.
Here’s a look at some of the projects around Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties:
Route 190, Ellenburg: Crews are working on the connector between routes 190 and 11. Traffic is controlled by flaggers.
Narrows Road, Ellenburg: Crews will begin rehabilitation of the Narrows Road Bridge on or about June 26. During that time, the road will be closed and a detour will be in place. Work is expected to be completed in November.
Lake Shore Road, Chazy: Crews will begin rehabilitation of the bridge over the Little Chazy River immediately south of Lapointe Road on or about June 24. During that time, the road will be closed and a detour will be in place.
Route 9, Beekmantown: Crews are performing shoulder-cutting operations on alternating sides of the road, moving along Route 9 between Route 11 and Spellman Road in Beekmantown. Traffic is reduced to one lane in both directions where work is taking place.
Interstate 87, Plattsburgh: The northbound and southbound lanes have been reduced to one lane from Route 3 to Exit 39. Work-zone speed is 45 mph. There is a signed detour for motorists trying to use the Exit 38 northbound on-ramp, which is closed. There are lane restrictions of 16 feet in the southbound lane and 18 feet in the northbound lane. One-lane traffic will remain until early October.
Route 22, Plattsburgh: Crews are reconstructing the overpass over Interstate 87. There will be some daily lane closures. Traffic is controlled by flaggers.
Guideboard Road, Town of Black Brook:The road is closed due to a drainage-structure failure. Crews are working to reopen the road by July 4. Motorists should follow the signed detour.
CITY OF PLATTSBURGH
Boynton Avenue: Crews are reconstructing the road between Lynde Street and Woodland Avenue. Traffic is controlled by flaggers.
Dennis Avenue: Crews are reconstructing the road between Prospect Avenue and Olivetti Place. The road is open to local residents only.F
Route 9, Chesterfield: Traffic has been reduced to one lane in alternating directions at the Chesterfield/Lewis line and is controlled by a temporary signal.
Route 86, Wilmington: Traffic has been reduced to one lane in alternating directions from the Jay/Wilmington line to Route 431 until further notice. Crews are repairing the bridge over the Ausable River a half-mile north of Fox Farm Road. Traffic is controlled by a temporary signal.
Adirondack Lodge Road, North Elba: Crews are preparing for an upcoming bridge replacement. Traffic is controlled by flaggers as necessary.
Interstate 87, Town of Chesterfield: Northbound traffic has been reduced to one lane from Exit 32 to the AuSable/Chesterfield line. Motorists should expect lane closures in both the northbound and southbound lanes between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Work is expected to be complete in late November.
Route 22, Westport: Traffic has been reduced to a single lane in alternating directions from the Essex/Westport line to the Westport/Moriah line. The work, with completion expected in late November, is taking place between Wadhams and County Route 8. Traffic is controlled by a temporary signal.
Route 73, Keene: Crews will be performing slope repair and drainage-improvement operations near Cascade Lake. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and will be controlled by an alternating traffic signal. The road may be closed periodically for up to 30 minutes.
Route 185, Crown Point: Crews are replacing wiring for lights on the Crown Point Bridge. The sidewalk is closed, but the roadway remains open. Completion is expected by June 21.
Route 3, Saranac Lake: Crews are replacing the pedestrian bridge over Route 3 between the Harrietstown/Saranac Lake line and River Street. Work is expected to take until June 30. Traffic disruptions should be minor.
