Storm causes cancelations

PLATTSBURGH — Today's snowstorm has prompted some cancellations and postponements of meetings and other events.

Here are some of them: The Treasure Chests, the FitzPatrick Cancer Center's breast cancer support group, will not meet at 6 p.m. today due to the weather.

Those with questions about next month's meeting can contact Elli Collins at 562-7148 or ecollins@cvph.org.

The First Weekends in Plattsburgh Inc. Board of Directors will not meet tonight.

The Start-Up NY seminar planned for today at North Country Community College's Malone campus has been postponed due to the snowstorm.

It is now set for 1 p.m. Feb. 12.

While a statewide State of Emergency is in place, it does not reflect conditions in Clinton County, Emergency Services Director Eric Day said in a press release.

"The declaration is specific for the closure of Interstate 84 (in the central Hudson Valley) as well as for (the State Department of Transportation) to provide road salt to local highway departments on Long Island and to the City of New York, where there are shortages.

"As always, we ask that the traveling public take a few extra minutes to get to your destination given the road conditions," Day said.

"Be safe and take your time on your way home this evening."
