Community Calendar: Jan. 31, 2014

STARTING OVER FOR 2014

Organizations and groups who meet on a regular basis, weekly or monthly, must submit a new announcement for Community Calendar for 2014. It must include the day of week and specific dates; time of the meeting or event; name of the organization or group; and exact location, including street address, town and/or name of building, if applicable.  Meetings must be open to everyone in order to be listed. Send notices to: stobias@pressrepublican.com.

COMMUNITY CALENDAR

The Press-Republican events calendar appears every Friday. Be sure submissions reach the Press-Republican newsroom at least one week before the calendar in which they need to appear.

Meet the Cardinals. Plattsburgh State vs Oneonta, 6 p.m., women’s game, free admission and “Go Cards” wristband for youths who attend wearing their own team jersey and accompanied by an adult. Autograph session with the men’s team at half-time of the women’s and with the women’s team after their game.

Fireworks. 6:30 p.m. Olympic Jumping Complex, 5486 Cascade Road, Lake Placid. Adults, $16; juniors and seniors, $10; Whiteface, Gore, Belleayre, Mt. Van Hoevenberg passholders, free.

Annual Winterfest. Beginning at 4 p.m. American Legion Post 1619, 219 Rand Hill Road, Morrisonville.  Honoring the 200th anniversary of the naval battle at Crab Island, Sept. 11, 1814. From 4 to 7 p.m., chicken and biscuit dinner; 7:30 p.m., opening ceremony with 40/8 color guard and guest speakers, and lighting of the Crab Island theme ice sculpture; 5 to 8 p.m., limited $1 menu; 6 p.m., Budweiser Caribou Cup broomball tournament; 8 p.m., fireworks; bonfire all weekend, open skating on pond and sliding on hill, free hot chocolate and coffee, meet Ice Chip the Chipmunk plus much more. Free.
