Frozen yogurt store coming to Consumer Square

PLATTSBURGH — A SweetFrog Premium Frozen Yogurt shop has been approved for Consumer Square in the Town of Plattsburgh.

The self-serve shop is planned for 1,400 of the 2,500 square feet that was originally intended for retail space between the recently opened Buffalo Wild Wings and the soon-to-open Chipotles.

The Town of Plattsburgh Planning Board approved the change from retail to restaurant space at its December meeting.

‘NICE MIX’

Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Bernie Bassett said he was pleased to see continued development at Consumer Square. That area now has a nice mix of restaurant options, he said.

“This will round out the options for shoppers coming into Consumer Square, and I’m sure it will be very successful,” he said.

According to the company website, SweetFrog offers soft-serve frozen yogurt in 41 nonfat flavors, 21 low-fat flavors, two supreme flavors, 10 no-sugar flavors and 10 flavors of sorbet, although not all at the same time.

There are also 62 toppings available.

Specialties include waffle cones, waffle cups, Belgian waffles, banana boats and parfaits. The company also sells its own apparel, toys and accessories on its website.

‘FAMILY FRIENDLY’

SweetFrog was founded by Derek Cha in Richmond, Va., in 2009. The chain now has about 320 shops in 25 states, the United Kingdom and Dominican Republic.

The closest location to Plattsburgh is in South Glens Falls.

The company prides itself on a family friendly environment and community involvement, including sponsorships and fundraisers, the website says.
