Deadline for mission applications extended to Jan. 6

PLATTSBURGH — North Country Mission of Hope has extended the deadline to apply to travel to Nicaragua on two micro-missions scheduled for March.

Those interested in the college mission, set for March 8 or 9 through March 15 or 16, or the medical trip that will take place March 16 through 22, is now Jan. 6.

The college mission is open to previous Mission of Hope participants who are now in college.

Mission of Hope Executive Director Sister Debbie Blow travels to Nicaragua on Jan. 1 for a week’s effort there; she said emailing applications to her would be preferable.

Plattsburgh-based Mission of Hope is a humanitarian-aid organization that relies on grants and donations to help needy Nicaraguans escape poverty.

City of Plattsburgh alters trash pickup for holiday

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Public Works Department will not collect garbage on Tuesday, Dec. 31, or Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Instead, collection for Monday and Tuesday next week will take place on Monday, and Wednesday and Thursday’s trash pickup will take place on Thursday.

Friday’s collection will be done as usual.

AuSable Council to organize for 2014

KEESEVILLE — The AuSable Town Council will hold its 2014 organizational meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Town Hall, 111 AuSable St., Keeseville.

The session is open to all.

Saranac Lake water-line work set for Monday

SARANAC LAKE — Due to low water pressure, the Village of Saranac Lake will be excavating the water line on Broadway between Bloomingdale Avenue and Olive Street starting at 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30.

The road is expected to be closed throughout the day, with traffic will be detoured around the work zone.

City of Plattsburgh inauguration set for Wednesday, Jan. 1

PLATTSBURGH — City of Plattsburgh Mayor-elect James Calnon and Common Council members will be inaugurated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1. 

The ceremony will take place in the auditorium at City Hall, 41 City Hall Place. 

City Court Judge Mark Rogers will deliver the oath of office.
