Community Calendar: Dec. 20, 2013

Local History Holiday Book Sale. 10 a.m. House of History Museum, 51 Milwaukee St., Malone. Country store will be open for favorite books and new publications.

Champlain Valley Irish Dancers. 5:30 and 7 p.m. Champlain Centre mall, Smithfield Boulevard, Plattsburgh, outside Gander Mountain court.

SAT., DEC. 21

Winter Farmers Market. 10 a.m. City Recreation Center, 52 U.S. Oval, Plattsburgh. Farm-raised food including vegetables, grass-fed and pastured meats, cheeses, eggs, wines, sauces. Customers can also order online and pick up at farms in Peru and Saranac.

Winter Solstice Shindig. 2 p.m., tree-trimming and decoration; 4 p.m., bluegrass concert; 5 p.m., potluck dinner with chili and cornbread, $5; 6 p.m., snowshoe hike; 7 p.m., hot chocolate and closing. Adirondack Interpretive Center, 5922 Route 28N, Newcomb. Beginning of winter celebration with live music, food, drink and night hike in the woods. 

Winter Solstice Celebration. 5 p.m.; music at 7 p.m. ROTA Gallery and Studios, 50 Margaret St., Plattsburgh. Musical guests include Adrian Aardvark Band, Theresa Hartford, Kevin Sanbourin and Soma Flora. Speakers include local herbalist Jenn Allen. 

Breakfast with Santa. 9 to 11 a.m. Dannemora Fire Station, 163 Emmons St. Hosted by the Dannemora Parks & Recreation Commission and Dannemora Fire Department. Free.
