He serves as chairman of the Finance Committee in charge of the budget and is a strong advocate for more equity of service for the southern end of the county.
Burpoe is the first of the seven legislators to announce whether they will seek re-election.
The board is split politically: four Democrats — Burpoe, Guy “Tim” Smith of Fort Covington, Gordon Crossman of Malone and Board Chairman Billy Jones of Chateaugay — to three Republicans — Paul Maroun of Tupper Lake, Sue Robideau of Brushton and Marc “Tim” Lashomb of Malone.
Nominating petitions begin circulating in June and must be filed with the County Board of Elections in mid-July.
