---- — PLATTSBURGH — A young black bear that has been spotted around the City of Plattsburgh in recent weeks made a pre-Halloween appearance Tuesday.
State officials have decided to help the bear leave the area before things get scary.
A couple of women walking dogs spotted the little visitor hanging out in a tree along the Terry Gordon Bike Path near U.S Oval in Plattsburgh. They notified Plattsburgh City Police.
The young bear has been sighted in recent weeks at several sites around the city, including passing by classrooms at Plattsburgh State and running through at the Plattsburgh High School athletic fields. City Police had urged residents to leave it alone so it could wander out of the area on its own.
It hadn't been seen for at least a week, until now.
City Police contacted the State Department of Environmental Conservation on Tuesday. Police Chief Desmond Racicot said they were told that officers are now planning to come trap the bear and remove it for safety reasons.
