3 prison officials suspended

MALONE — State prison officials have suspended two Franklin Correctional Facility sergeants and a correction officer for “a use of force incident” involving an inmate.

An internal investigation is underway into an incident that took place on July 23, said Linda Foglia of the Public Affairs Office of the State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

She said the three people, whom she would not identify, were suspended without pay last week concerning an incident involving one inmate.

Foglia said she could not comment on the particulars of the case since it is an ongoing investigation and declined to say what kind of injuries or medical treatment the inmate may have received.

Malone-based State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigators said they have made no arrests concerning a July 23rd incident at the prison.

Franklin County District Attorney Derek Champagne told the Press-Republican that his office “has not received any paperwork on this involving any arrests.”

He said typically if there is an internal investigation by the correction department that rises to the level of criminal charges, the case is referred to the State Police to make an arrest.

The BCI then either begins its own investigation or refers it to another appropriate agency to review.

FYI...
  • Why do wolves howl?

Of all the myths that dog the wolf, none is more widely accepted than the idea that wolves howl at the moon. Images of wolves with their heads upturned, singing at the night sky, are as unquestioned as a goldfish's three-second memory or a dog's color-blindness (both also myths).
