Milk contest, dog demonstration set at fair

WESTPORT — The Essex County Fair will feature a Milk Drinking Contest and Dog Agility Demonstration today.

The fair is taking place at the fairgrounds in Westport through Sunday, Aug. 4.

Pets are not allowed on the fairgrounds except for service or exhibit animals.

Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. This is a tobacco-free event, with use of tobacco allowed only in the campground area.

Here is the schedule:

TODAY

Yandow Sales & Service Day; Carload Sale, $25 from 3 to 9 p.m. includes carnival rides; Senior Citizen Day (seniors over age 60). Receive $2 off food coupon with $10 admission.

9 a.m.: 4-H Horse Show (all other classes) at Horse Ring or Pulling Ring.

Noon: Midway opens.

2 p.m.: Milk Drinking Contest at the Cattle Ring.

5:30 p.m.: Bicycle Giveaway at the Denton Publications Stage on the south lawn.

6 p.m.: Dog Agility Demonstration at the Conservation Area; Garden Tractor Pull at the Gordon Oil Grandstand; and Essex Co. Fair Beauty Pageant at the Denton Publications Stage.

FRIDAY

Haulin’ Junk Day.

8 a.m.: Essex County Fair Horse Show at the Horse Ring or Pulling Ring.

9:30 a.m.: County Fair Cattle Show at the 4-H Cooperative Extension Area.

10 a.m.: Midway opens.

Noon: Bicycle Rodeo and Bike Giveaway, both at the Gordon Oil Grandstand.

2 p.m.: Pudding-Eating Contest at the EMS Building.

5:15 p.m. John Longware Memorial Pancake Supper at Conservation Area.

6 p.m.: Car Rollover Contest and Figure 8 Race at the Gordon Oil Grandstand (charge).

Dusk: Fireworks at the Gordon Oil Grandstand.

SATURDAY

Egglefield Ford Day.

8 a.m.: Open Horse Show at the Horse Ring or Pulling Ring.

10 a.m.: Horse Pulls at the Horse Ring or Pulling Ring.

11 a.m.: 4-H Rabbit Fun Show.

Noon: Midway opens; Egglefield Ford Demolition Derby at the Gordon Oil Grandstand, with $5 admission charge.

1 p.m.: 4-H Poultry Costume Show at the 4-H Cooperative Extension Area.

4 p.m.: Cattle Costume Class at the 4-H Cooperative Extension Area.

5 p.m.: Egglefield Ford Demolition Derby at the grandstand, with $5 charge.

5:30 p.m.: Bike Giveaway at the Denton Publications Stage on the south lawn.
