ADDISON, Vt. (AP) — Top transportation officials from Vermont and New York are going to hold a news conference to talk about the condition of the closed Lake Champlain bridge between Addison, Vt., and Crown Point, N.Y.

The Monday event in Addison will be held by Vermont Transportation Secretary David Dill and acting New York Department of Transportation Commissioner Stanley Gee.

The two will provide an update on the bridge's condition and talk about plans for the future of the bridge, which was closed Oct. 16 after engineers determined it was unsafe.

The two states are now scrambling to find alternative ways across the lake for the 3,000 to 3,500 people who crossed the bridge daily.

To get around by land is an 80 mile detour. The two states are considering a new ferry.
