Encon plan for float planes rejected by APA

— RAY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — An Adirondack Park Agency committee has rejected a plan by state conservation officials to allow continued use of Lows Lake by commercial float planes, finding it inconsistent with the State Land Master Plan.
Proposed changes to the Bog River Lows Lake Primitive Area, along the St. Lawrence and Hamilton county boundary, has been the subject of intense debate and a lawsuit. Environmentalists want planes gone from an area that's mostly wilderness.
Plane operators and municipal officials say air services, bringing fishermen and other visitors to the remote lake, help the region economically.
The full APA board was to consider the plan again Friday.
