Lake Placid Firefighters Fill-the-Boot fundraiser. Firefighters will be at the intersection of Routes 73 and 86 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with their boots so motorists can give in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Fill-the-Boot supports MDA's service locally and nationally.

To educate the public about the problem of partner violence, mourn those who have died, celebrate those who have survived and connect with those who are working to end violence. 17th-annual Fall Trails Day. Adirondack Mountain Club will lead volunteers using hand tools to clean drainage, trim overgrown sections of trail and remove downed trees in the High Peaks of the Adirondacks to prepare the trails for spring. Participants can stay at ADK's Wilderness Campground for free on both Friday and Saturday nights. Today will start with a simple breakfast at the High Peaks Information Center near the Adirondak Loj, but volunteers should pack a lunch. Work will begin at 8 a.m. Register at 523-3441.
